TOUR ITINERARY :

DAY 1: ARRIVE AT PARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Arrive at Paro International Airport. Paro is situated in a beautiful valley and is a fitting introduction to this charming kingdom. Your guide will meet you and take you on a drive along the Paro and Thimphu river valleys to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. You can stop on the way to take in the magnificent Tamchhog Lhakhang, the hereditary place of worship for Bhutan’s iron bridge builder. Check in the hotel and rest for an hour and we will go for lunch in one of the best restaurants in Thimphu town or you can have lunch in the same hotel. In the afternoon we will visit the School of Traditional Arts. After that, we will visit the Folk Heritage Museum. You can discuss with your guide what you would like to do. Take a late afternoon walk around town and soak in the atmosphere of this magical capital with its busy shops and bazaars and photogenic citizens in national dress.

DAY 2: THIMPHU SIGHTSEEING

Thimphu sightseeing in the morning. We will visit the Weekly farmers vegetable market and then visit the revered Memorial Chorten, and the traditional paper making factory. In the afternoon we wil visit Tashichho Dzong, the ‘’fortress of the glorious religion.’’ This massive building was constructed completely by hand and without a single nail, it houses government offices, the king‘s audience chambers, the Je Khempo (head of the Drukpa Kagyu line of Mahayana Buddhism in Bhutan) And a multitude of temples, and many monks. Afternoon Relax and walk around the Thimphu town by yourself to enjoy the city.

DAY 3: DRIVE TO PUNAKHA

Today after breakfast in Thimphu hotel we will drive to Punakha, on the way we will stop at Dochula to see the views of the Himalayas if the weather is clear. Lunch in the hotel. After lunch, we will visit the old capital, Punakha the imposing Punakha Dzong, “Palace of Great Happiness”. Built in 1637, it is strategically placed at the confluence of two rivers, the Po Chu and the Mo Chu.

DAY 4: EXCURTION TO GANGTEY GOMPA

Today after breakfast in the hotel. Drive to Gangtey Gompa (at 3500 meters). ( 2 Hours drive) Enjoy the views of the immense and remote Phobjikha valley and the black mountain ranges. Visit Gangtey Gompa (one of Bhutan’s oldest monasteries). where the villagers continue to live a traditional Bhutanese rural lifestyle. This is the site where black-necked cranes visit in their hundreds in November each year after spending the summer in Tibet. As a result, no electricity is run to the valley to avoid disturbing their habitat. Later in the evening drive back to Punakha for overnight.

DAY 5: DRIVE TO PARO

Today after breakfast in the Punakha hotel we will drive back to Paro on the way we will visit Simtokha Dzong one of the oldest Dzong in Bhutan. Lunch in Paro. After lunch, you can visit Ta Dzong (‘the Watchtower’) now housing the National Museum. Built on top of the hill above Rinpung Dzong, it was originally used to defend Rinpung Dzong and the Paro valley during times of war. Its unusual circular construction resembles a conch shell and it now contains a magnificent collection of Bhutanese artefacts – costumes, religious paintings, arms, textiles and a fascinating collection of Bhutan stamps. Later in the afternoon free time to explore Paro Town.

DAY 6: PARO SIGHTSEEING

This morning visits the impressive Paro Rinpung Dzong, one of the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture. After that, you can visit the 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang, a temple of historical significance and one of the most sacred shrines in Bhutan. Later in the afternoon free time to explore most sacred shrines in Bhutan. Then visit ruined Drukgyel Dzong (fortress of victory), constructed to commemorate the victory over Tibetan invaders in 1644 and destroyed by a butter lamp fire in 1951. Discuss with your guide what takes your interest, or you may prefer to spend some time relaxing at the hotel.

DAY 7: DEPARTURE

Early in the morning your guide will accompany you to the airport to see you off onto your flight and wish you Tashi Delek (goodbye and good luck).
